Technique

North South Escape

This week we focussed on escaping from the North South position.  This can be a tricky position to escape from as shrimping basically leaves you in the same position.  We therefore practised the 'roll over' technique.

Of course some flexibility is required, but the escape can be executed with greater ease if you observe the following:

1.  Make space.  Use your arms to either grab your opponents Gi or hips and extend.
2. Move your head.  Move your head to one side and roll to the other, leaving your head directly in the middle makes the roll more difficult.
3. Practise the various options:
  •  Roll to hooks in
  • Roll to back
  • Roll to knees in and replace guard
We have now covered escapes from the majority of the 'top pinning' positions, we still have the knee on belly and scarf hold escapes to introduce, the plan is to do this over the coming week.  After that its a case of drilling the positions and escapes over and over and over and over....
